Our first acceptance!!

On Friday, I flew all day from Orange County to Florida. When I landed in Florida, I had a voicemail from Mike Lawson, the Senior Associate Dean at Boston University. Mike conducted my interview for BU, and he was calling to offer congratulations on my acceptance!!

We are very excited - this means we're going to graduate school! Now we've just got to wait on the other 6 decisions to arrive. We hope more acceptances arrive, but we know how competitive it is, and that this might be the only one. We hear from UNC in just over a week!

Yo ho, yo ho . . .

a pirate's life for me!

I promised Rose that I would take her to Disneyland after she took the GMAT. Then I said I'd take her after the wedding. Then I said I'd take her after the applications were done. So I (finally) kept my promise and we went on Saturday.

Our adventure began in the Lion King parking lot, Timon 15E. After a brief but thrilling ride on the parking lot tram, we entered the happiest place on earth. For those who haven't been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride recently, take note: there are now three Jack Sparrows and two drops (not one!). Sadly, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and the Haunted Mansion were both closed. But the Winnie the Pooh ride and 'It's a Small World' were both (thankfully) open.

and hot chocolate, we finished our tour at Autopia.

Yes, despite having a turbo-charged Saab with seat

heaters waiting for us in the parking lot, we waited

in line for an hour to drive a tin go-cart with little

steering and no brakes.

At least Rose had a good time driving . . .

Interviewing

Finally, the essays are written, the applications are submitted, and we can finally get to what I'm good at: interviewing!

I had an alumni interview with UNC back in December, and my BU interview with the dean yesterday. I've got one with a Northwestern admissions person on Monday (happy MLK day to me). And I just found out that I've been given a Duke interview; they'll give one to anyone who comes to campus, but the local alumni interview is a bit harder to come by, so we're pretty excited.

Any suggestions for Duke or Northwestern?

Why Latin?

Because I took four years of it in high school, and I really should get some use out of it. It means 'the die is cast' and Caesar said it (supposedly). Anyway, I think it's appropriate for this year of our lives. I've applied to school (yay!), so our die has been cast. This means (in theory) that we'll be moving sometime this year.

I know that I can't expect anyone to remember what's going on with us, particularly since I can't remember myself most days. So I thought we'd post here, so you're updated whenever we get new information. And so my mother can look here instead of asking me (on every phone conversation) "Where is Northwestern again?" (it's north of Chicago, Mom).

So I am going to (hopefully) go to business school to get my MBA. I've applied to 7 schools (thanks to Rich and Amanda for all of their fine editing work). None of them are in southern California, which is why we'll most likely be moving. I've listed all the schools to the right over here, along with their decision dates. So if I don't post on those days, you can certainly assume the worst :) With the exception of BU, they're all top 25 schools (and BU is still top 50!), so competition is pretty fierce. I'll be happy if I get in anywhere!
